Ibn Taimiyyah on the Madhhab of the Salaf

Shaikh Al-Islam, Ibn Taimiyyah, said, “The Madhhab (way, methodology) of Ahl-As-Sunnah wa Al-Jama`ah (people of Sunnah and unity), is an ancient, well-known Madhab before Allah created Abu Haneefah, Malik, Ash-Shafi`i, or Ahmad. It is the Madhhab of the Sahabah (the Companions) which they took from their Prophet. Whoever contradicts it, is, according to Ahl-As-Sunnah wa Al-Jama`ah, a Mubtadi` (innovator in the religion).” (Ibn Taimiyyah. Minhaj As-Sunnah, 2/601)
