I once gave a Friday khutbah at a masjid controlled by ‘Political Islamists,’ where I encouraged the congregation to call the community they live in to Islam, because they have a right on us, Muslims, to inform them about Allah, the Quran, Muhammad and his Sunnah, and about the qualities of Islam. The leader of the masjid objected after the khutbah to my using the term, kafir (disbelievers), to describe Jews and Christians, saying that they are not kafir. I said, “So they are Muslim?” He said, “No, but they are not kafir.” I said, “So they are Muslim?” He said, “No, but they are not kafir.” I said, “So they are Muslim?” He said, “No, but they are not kafir.” That’s three times! I then said that Allah called them kafir in the Quran, {Laqad Kafara (surely, kafir) are those who said: “Allâh is Al-Masee`h (the Messiah), the son of Maryam (Mary)”} (5:72) & {Laqad Kafara (surely, kafir) are those who said: “Allâh is the third of the three (in a Trinity)} (5:73). I said that this just about covers the vast majority of Christians today and throughout their history.
He wasn’t satisfied. It seems that in ‘Political Islam,’ the first casualty is Islam itself!
