Bishr al-Harith said, "Za'idah used to sit in the Masjid warning from Ibn Hayy and his companions."
Ath-Thahabi said aobut Ibn Hayy, "Even though he was an Imam, he had traits of the Khawarij in him." (Tathkirat al-Huffadh 1/216)
Sufyan ath-Thawri entered the Masjid and saw al-Hasan bin Hayy praying, and said, "We seek refuge in Allah from hypocretical fear of Allah", and he took his shoes and left.
