Here is a question posted by one of our members, followed by the answer to it.

Q: In the first place let me apologize for the absurd topic I christened. I once read a Christian Poser, he tried to prove, firstly, the unadulteration of Bible through Quran 10:94 (and 5:46-47) and secondly, the embarrasing argument in Q 10:94 that nauzubillah, Mohammad (pbuh) doubted Quranic revelations.  Seeking an enlightenment thus.

As-salamu alaikum warahmatullah

You can ask any question so that we all benefit Inshaallah.  However, do not use such words as ‘christened’ as you know the obvious origin of it; we Muslims should not use such terms at all.

The Quran clearly stated that the original copies of the Torah and the Injeel have been corrupted; {Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands and then say, “This is from Allâh,” to purchase with it a little price! Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for that they earn thereby} [2:79].  Abdullah Ibn Abbas affirmed this fact in a Hadeeth collected by Imam Bukhari.  Abdullah Ibn `Abbas said, “O, Muslims? How do you ask the people of the Scriptures, though your Book (Qur'an) which was revealed to His Prophet is the most recent information from Allah and you recite it, the Book that has not been distorted? Allah has revealed to you that the people of the scriptures have changed with their own hands what was revealed to them and they have said (as regards their changed Scriptures): This is from Allah, in order to get some worldly benefit thereby.”  Ibn `Abbas added, "Isn't the knowledge revealed to you sufficient to prevent you from asking them? By Allah I have never seen any one of them asking (Muslims) about what has been revealed to you.

There is not a single Ayah in the Quran that mentions the book popularly known as ‘The Bible’; this is a Christian fantasy on which the comment you mentioned is based.  Those who disagree should bring a single Ayah or Hadeeth that mentions the vast collection of fake and outrageous stories called ‘The Bible’ as being the Torah and the Injeel.  The Torah is NOT the Old Testament of today.  The Injeel is NOT the New Testament.

Allah revealed the Torah TO Prophet Moses; the Old Testament is not it, especially the books that were written AFTER Moses died.  Moses did not write the 5 books in the Old Testament attributed to him.  Even if he did, and he didn’t, the Torah Allah sent down to Moses was written by Allah, not by Moses or about Moses.  Allah revealed the Injeel TO Prophet Jesus, who never saw the New Testament with his own eyes.  It is absolute absurdity to equate the Injeel, a book Allah revealed TO Prophet Jesus, not written by Jesus or about Jesus, with the fabricated book called ‘The New Testament’.

Thus, even if the Children of Israel and the Christians manage to somehow bring a single original page from the Torah or the Injeel, they cannot abide by it and abandon the Quran, or else, eternal punishment in Hellfire awaits them.

Ayat 5:46-47 are, obviously, preceded and followed by other Ayat.  Let’s read the entire topic: {Verily, We did send down the Taurât (Torah) [to Mûsâ (Moses)], therein was guidance and light, by which the Prophets, who submitted themselves to Allâh’s Will, judged for the Jews. And the rabbis and the priests [too judged for the Jews by the Taurât (Torah) after those Prophets], for to them was entrusted the protection of Allâh’s Book, and they were witnesses thereto. Therefore fear not men but fear Me (O Jews) and sell not My Verses for a miserable price. And whosoever does not judge by what Allâh has revealed, such are the Kâfirûn (i.e. disbelievers — of a lesser degree as they do not act on Allâh’s Laws). And We ordained therein for them: Life for life, eye for eye, nose for nose, ear for ear, tooth for tooth, and wounds equal for equal. But if anyone remits the retaliation by way of charity, it shall be for him an expiation. And whosoever does not judge by that which Allâh has revealed, such are the Dhâlimûn (polytheists and wrongdoers — of a lesser degree). And in their footsteps, We sent ‘Îsâ (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), confirming the Taurât (Torah) that had come before him, and We gave him the Injeel (Gospel), in which was guidance and light and confirmation of the Taurât (Torah) that had come before it, a guidance and an admonition for Al-Muttaqûn (the pious). Let the people of the Injeel (Gospel) judge by what Allâh has revealed therein. And whosoever does not judge by what Allâh has revealed (then) such (people) are the Fâsiqûn [the rebellious i.e. disobedient (of a lesser degree)] to Allâh. And We have sent down to you (O, Muhammad) the Book (this Qur’ân) in truth, confirming the Scripture that came before it and Mohayminan (trustworthy in highness and a witness) over it (old Scriptures). So judge among them by what Allâh has revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging away from the truth that has come to you. To each among you, We have prescribed a law and a clear way. If Allâh had willed, He would have made you one nation, but that (He) may test you in what He has given you; so compete in good deeds. The return of you (all) is to Allâh; then He will inform you about that in which you used to differ. And so judge (you O Muhammad صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ) among them by what Allâh has revealed and follow not their vain desires, but beware of them lest they turn you (O Muhammad) far away from some of that which Allâh has sent down to you. And if they turn away, then know that Allâh’s Will is to punish them for some sins of theirs. And truly, most of men are Fâsiqûn (rebellious and disobedient to Allâh). Do they then seek the judgment of (the days of) Ignorance? And who is better in judgment than Allâh for a people who have firm Faith.} [5:44-50]

1.      The Torah no longer exists in its original form on earth.  While it did, and before Prophets Jesus and Muhammad were sent, it was the valid law for the Children of Israel.  The Ayat above merely state that the people who received this book were ordered to rule by it.  The Ayah does not order the Children of Israel to abide by it now.  First, the Original Torah no longer exists in its original form.  Second, read the next Ayat.

2.      The Injeel no longer exists in its original form on earth.  While it did, and before Prophet Muhammad, salla-llahu alaihi wa-sallam, was sent, it, along with the Torah, was the valid law for the Children of Israel.  The Ayat above merely state that the people who received this book were ordered to rule by it.  The Ayah does not order the Children of Israel to abide by it now.  First, the Original Injeel no longer exists in its original form.  Second, read the next Ayat.  Third, today’s Christians are NOT from among the Children of Israel to whom the Torah and the Injeel were revealed.

3.      The Ayat afterwards state that the Quran came as Muhaimin above the original Torah and the original Injeel.  This word means that the Quran superceded and abrogated the Law of the Torah and the Injeel.

4.      The Ayat require Prophet Muhammad, salla-llahu alaihi wa-sallam, to rule among mankind by the Quran and its explanation, the Sunnah.

5.      The Ayat require mankind, including Jews and Christians, to rule by what Allah has revealed to Muhammad, salla-llahu alaihi wa-sallam, which is the authority above the Torah and the Injeel.

How can anyone read this and then think that the Quran orders the Jews and Christians, who no longer have the Torah or the Injeel in their original form, to abide by the Old Testament and the New Testament, which are NOT the Torah, the Injeel or even a revelation from Allah?

As for Ayah 10:94, {So, if you (O Muhammad) are in doubt concerning that which We have revealed unto you, [i.e. that your name is written in the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)], then ask those who are reading the Book [the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] before you. Verily, the truth has come to you from your Lord. So be not of those who doubt (it)}, just read the text and tell me where it says that Prophet Muhammad, salla-llahu alaihi wa-sallam, had doubts about the Quran.  Even in English, ‘If’, does not mean, ‘have’.  The Ayah says ‘if’, the Christians cannot hear this word.  They also did not hear that the Prophet, salla-llahu alaihi wa-sallam, was reported to have said, “I will neither ask nor doubt.

Beneficial Knowledge is a light from Allah that He grants to those who deserve it and are qualified to receive it.
